Information to Get Before Hiring a Web Site Company

In this industry, people typically do not know what to look for when they hire a web site company. There are many ‘mom and pop’ shops that are ready to take your money, use cookie cutter templates, and other non custom programming that create a “card board” like website – just like a cardboard house. You see the framework and hope it withstands the huffing and puffing of the three piglets of commerce – your customers, your customers, and your customers.
Before you hire a web developer, ask the following questions:
- Do you have a web site?
- Where can I see examples of your work?
- How did you get into the industry?
- How long have you been in business?
- Are you educated in this field or hold a degree in a related field?
- Will you provide references of former or current clients?
- What software and technologies do you use? Will they be compatible with the needs of my site?
- How do you increase your knowledge of and keep up with emerging technology?
- How does the development process work? What steps are involved?
- What other services do you provide?
- Once you’ve completed my project, how is maintenance performed?
- Who retains ownership of my project files?
- How long will it take to complete my project?
- What are your fees?
- Do you have a contract?
- What information will we need to provide you?
